Athlete Support Expectations

Rationale of expectations

Subject to financial capacity, MUAC aims to support its athletes who strive to compete at the higher levels in the sport. This includes AA sanctioned National Championships, Uni Sport Australia National Championships and World Athletics sanctioned international competition. Athletes who perform well at State and National Championships have previously been eligible for honorary membership in the subsequent year of their relevant performance.

MUAC operates on the basis of volunteer input and pursues success in Athletics Victoria Club competitions, in particular the AV Cross Country Season (XCR), the AV Summer League competition (AVSL) and the State Relay Championships.

Hence, to be eligible for such support, the club has set expectations as to what will be an acceptable level of participation in the Club during the course of the relevant year and/or prior year (whichever seems reasonably appropriate in the circumstances).

Participation expectations

Acceptable participation is defined as accumulation of 5 points from any of the below:

  • Active, contributing member of the MUAC Committee (5 points)
    • At the end of a committee term, it will be determined by the Executive committee whether each individual committee member, where applicable, has qualified for the 5 points
      • The President will determine qualification for the other 3 Executive members
      • The other 3 Executive members will determine qualification for the president

  • Contribute to a round of AVSL, XCR or state relay champs (1 point per round – 1 point for relay champs even if participating in multiple events).
    • Note: “contribution” includes officiating at a competition round where such officiating is required of MUAC and without such officiating MUAC would lose points (or additional points are awarded)

  • Lead the organisation of one of MUAC’s annual events
    • Annual Awards dinner (5 points)
    • Christmas Gift (2 points)
    • College Athletics Track and Field (4 points)
    • College Athletics Cross Country (2 points)
    • Clubs Week co-ordinator (2 points)
  • Be a substantial and effective support resource for any such annual events
    • Annual Awards dinner (3 points)
    • Christmas Gift (1 point)
    • College Aths
      • One of the track sessions (2 points)
      • Cross Country session (1 point)
    • Clubs Week Table attendance (1 point)

  • Be recognised as a Club Coach (there is a process to be acknowledged as a club coach)

Conduct expectations

  •   If competing at events such as State Titles and National Championships, you are expected to wear MUAC uniform.
    • If you are unable to wear the MUAC uniform, communication to the Club President explaining why this is not your preferred uniform would be appreciated.

  • Generally be regarded as an MUAC member who provides an appropriate representation of MUAC via your behaviours and general interest in the club.

Eligibility for support

  • Members who are not competing members will not be eligible for such athlete support.
  • Competing members who have not become eligible for athlete support in a given membership year, but have accumulated the 5 points will be entitled to a $20.00 reduction in their subsequent year’s membership
