This is our training squad for pole vault.
The pole vault squad is an elite group aiming to qualify for national (Junior/Senior/Masters) championships on an annual basis. There is a clear aim to make finals at nationals and win medals at State level. Expectations for athletes are to train a minimum of 3 days per week (juniors) or 5 days per week (seniors).
Trial event training can be arranged for interested parties by contacting Warren. Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7am, and Sundays from 1pm, meeting at the pole vault mats located at the eastern end of Rawlinson Track.
Members of this squad are expected to pay a squad fee of $300 per year, which includes a $50 pole use fee.
Warren is qualified as a Level 4 Senior Coach.
His own athletics career began at Ohio State University, in the background to his football training. He competed at NCAA, UK National and Welsh championship level, finishing in 3rd at the 1990 Commonwealth Games trial with his personal best of 4.90 metres. These days, he still competes regularly at Masters global competitions.
He coached Irie Hill, Dominic Johnson and Jason Hinkin from 1998 to the 2000 Olympics, and subsequent 2002 Commonwealth Games, where Irie and Dominic both won medals. He has been a coach at Melbourne University Athletics Club since 2000.
Warren is a single dad to a son mad about every sport but athletics! He lives in the CBD and works in the technology field for the government.
